Early Flood Warning Preparation, Mitigation Strategies, Resilience and Livelihood Coping Strategies Training of Residents in Selected Communities in Ogbaru LGA, Anambra State

Funded by: Irish Aid Emergency Humanitarian Response Fund (EHRF)
Duration: October 2023 – January 2024

Target Communities: Atani, Aguleri, and Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State

Beneficiaries: Over 3,125 individuals (1,203 males and 1,922 females including widows, divorcees, elderly, and people with disabilities)

PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS

• 323 direct beneficiaries trained and equipped with flood coping strategies

• Increased adaptation abilities to flooding through early warning systems training

• Animal husbandry training for selected women in ruminant rearing techniques

•• Enhanced climate awareness enabling farmers to notice rainfall patterns and adjust farming activities

• Agricultural support including agronomic training and distribution of vegetable seeds (Ugu, Okra) and plantain/banana suckers

• Improved early warning capacity helping communities prepare for and mitigate flood impacts

• Health center rehabilitation at Atani, improving access to healthcare services for the entire community
